Reagent kit for the preparation of technetium-99m (99mTc) ethylcysteine dimer (ECD) (Bicisate).
The localization of the diagnostic agent in the brain compartment depends on the degree of perfusion of this compartment. Once it has crossed the blood-brain barrier, it is retained within this compartment thanks to a chemical conversion that, generated by the pH of this compartment, prevents it from crossing the blood-brain barrier again. Intravenous (i.v.) route allows the evaluation of the degree of cerebral perfusion after the radiopharmaceutical manages to cross the blood-brain barrier.
