Description
Localization of the diagnostic agent in the bone compartment is achieved by uptake of the radioactive complex in the calcium ions of the hydroxyapatite of the bone matrix. In acute myocardial infarction the uptake mechanism is similar. When administered unlabeled, sodium pyrophosphate heptahydrate together with the reducing agent concentrates on the plasma membrane of erythrocytes. Intravenous (i.v.) route allows the evaluation of the degree of osteogenesis in the skeleton, diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction, circulatory disorders and perfusion failures, especially in those changes of cardiac dynamics.
